Az épületet eredetileg a 2. században emelték, de 260-ban egy háború során szinte teljesen elpusztult. Újjáépítéséről egy 268-ból származó kőbevésett felirat tudósít, mely a fürdőt Thermae Maiores (Nagy Fürdő) néven említi.
